Newly appointed CEO of the African Tourism Board (ATB), Doris Woerfel released her initial welcome message to her team of ATB on Wednesday (April 24) declaring her vision for African tourism.

Woerfel shared her vision for African Tourism and commitment to contribute in a way to make Africa the number one tourist destination in the world.

The CEO has reportedly commented to be thrilled to be a part of ATB and expressed her excitement to be doing exciting things.

Over the last few decades, African tourist destinations, especially, the ones which are rich in culture, for instance, the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage sites – great Zimbabwe and the Kingdom of Mapungubwe – have been made to sit out on the opportunities of international visitors and travelers to Africa because of the humongous lack of physical and human infrastructure, according to Woerfel.

For many countries in Africa, Tourism is one of the major economic sectors which let people earn bread and butter for the region. There are a lot of African continents which have enough diversity and attractions which make it exciting to visit for outsiders: There are numerous species in wildlife, a multitude of natural beauty, and the vibrant tangible and intangible cultural heritage, as well as the folklore all,  contributes to it, added the CEO.

Woerfel has commercial and non-profit experience work experience worth 20 years. She has worked in many fields including Responsible Tourism, Destination Management, Marketing, and Socio-Economic Community Development. Woerfel, in her own words, intends to use her expertise where she can catapult the growth of not only ATB but the wholesome growth of Africa and its people.
