Jet Airways Pilot’s Body Appeals to Lender SBI for Money, Modi for Job Security

The pilot’s body of the Indian airline company Jet Airways, National Aviator’s Guild (NAG) on Monday (April 15) pleaded to the primary lender of the crisis-ridden carrier, which is State Bank of India (SBI) to release major fund of about 15 billion rupees, the proposal for which was in talks with the public sector bank.

Currently, the airline is merely going on with its business with six-seven aircraft while the rest of the planes are grounded because of overdue-payments to various lessors which the debt-ridden company couldn’t bring out.

Vice President of NAG, Adim Valiani, reportedly appealed to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to save the 20,000 jobs which are on the verge of extinction as well as appealed to the primary lender to Jet Airways SBI to shell out the 15 billion rupees loan which was in talks to be given to the company for sometimes at the headquarter of the airline Siroya Centre in Mumbai.

Last week employees of the company staged a protest at the International airport of the Indian capital city, New Delhi demanding their long-overdue salaries to be paid. The employees had last drawn salaries from the airline company in December 2018. SBI had promised to invest 15 billion dollars in the company till the time they find more investors.

The meeting scheduled for Monday with lenders is reportedly expected to make the final call on the quantum of funds to be inculcated right away to avoid a complete shutdown as of now. A meeting which took place between the Jet Airways management and its primary lender SBI last Friday (April 12) could not take a decision on the matter at hand.
