A software issue has led to the delay of hundreds of flights in the US

US airlines like United, Southwest and Delta were forced to ground their flights early Monday because of a technical issue with Aerodata resulting in hundreds of flights getting delayed and cancelled across the country.

Aerodata , a software supplied by a Scottsdale, Arizona based third-party vendor determines whether a flight can take off by monitoring its weight and balance. The airlines that have been affected by this software issue include Southwest, Delta, United, American and Jet Blue- all of these airlines are customers of Aerodata.

The US Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed this on Twitter by saying “Several US airlines are experiencing computer issues this morning.” and made an appeal to the passengers to check their flight’s status with their airlines.

The malfunction of this software has left many passengers waiting for long hours at various airports across the nation. Delays were reported at a number of airports across Phoenix, New Orleans, Atlanta, New York and Chicago. To make things worse the weather was also not good for flights because of the high winds that were recorded yesterday.

According to data sources from flightaware.com close to 200 flights got delayed or cancelled from Baltimore – Washington International, Dulles International and Reagan National airports. According to National Public Radio United Airlines has grounded 150 flights, Southwest has grounded more than 600 flights due to yesterdays technical issue.

Delta has confirmed the flight delays due to the software issue early Monday morning but it didn’t cancel any of its flights.  A Delta spokesperson said “No cancellations are expected due to the issue and our teams are working to resolve some of the resulting delays.”
