A total of 709 flights have been canceled by the Scandinavian Airlines on Thursday (May 02) as the strikes held by the pilots’ of the carrier reaches its seventh day and remains unresolved.

The National Mediator of Norway at the Riksmekleren, Mats Wilhelm Ruland, explained the situation as “deadlocked”. Earlier the airline has canceled around 200 flights on Thursday (May 02). The resolution talk that has been going on between the company and the pilot union hasn’t seen any resolution which has led to the cancellation of the rest of the scheduled flights for the day.

The company reportedly stated that they hoped the issue will get resolved in the Wednesday talks and in that situation the flight services would have commenced by Thursday evening. But the situation did not go through and resolve. The day’s cancellation has left about 54,000 passengers stranded.

It is the first time both sides have sat down together for talks since SAS pilots walked off the job in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway on Friday demanding better pay and conditions, though they met prior to the walkout.

A large number of passengers has gone through flight cancellations and travel plan disruptions after 1,400 pilots in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden started the strike last Friday on April 26. In the first six days of the strike, more than 320,000 passengers were affected.
