According to an analysis by WalletHub the Seattle based carrier Alaska reigns at the top of the best US airlines list, this is in contrast to a study conducted by researchers from Wichita State University which ranked Alaska at 4th position in the list.
WalletHub arrived at these results after comparing nine major US airlines and three regional airlines. Alaska occupied the first place,
WalletHub used a similar strategy like Airline Quality Ranking Report done by Wichita State University early this year.
Many factors have been taken into consideration while conducting the analysis, some of the factors that propelled Alaska to the top of this list are safety and cost, Alaska Airlines scored very high on both these factors over other airlines. For assessing safety of an airline the study considered other deciding sub factors like age of the airline fleet, accident history and number of recorded injuries to date. While Alaska topped the list mainly for safety and cost factors its competitor Delta managed to get to the second position, Delta scored better on other factors like lowest rate of cancellations, reduced delays, mishandled bags and denied boarding when compared to other airlines.
Alaska took 5th position interms of reliability and needs to improve on this one factor.
