The connection service of Star Alliance is now available at Heathrow Airport as well. The initiative is supposed to help passengers using two connecting flights under the Star Alliance Membership board their connecting flights at these designated airports.

Dedicated connection service staff make use of the special software to monitor the transfer window for passengers with the connecting flights. In situations, where passengers, as well as checked bags, appear in danger of missing a connection, are automatically highlighted.

This lets agents gauge the various options available to ensure the customer gets onboard their connecting flight, the most frequent situation would be to arrange for the customer to be personally escorted between their arriving and departing gates.

For certain passengers, the service agent will book alternative options, before the inbound flight lands.

Chair of the country steering council of Star Alliance member carriers in the UK, Julie Murphy stated that adding Heathrow airport as one of the airports is furthering the initiative of Star Alliance where the customer is seamlessly taken care of when they are opting for connecting flights.

London Heathrow is the 12th largest Star Alliance transfer hub worldwide, with over 430,000 interline transfer passengers connecting from one Star Alliance carrier to another every year.

The Star Alliance member carriers which serve London Heathrow are as follows: Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, Ana, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, Eva Air, Lot Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Swiss, Tap Air Portugal, Thai, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines.
