Indian domestic carrier IndiGo announced on Tuesday (May 04) special discounts on international flights with an attractive all-inclusive rate of Rs. 6,999. Other domestic airlines like SpiceJet and GoAir also followed suit by offering discounts on both domestic and international flights.

The step was taken by the domestic carriers at a time when the suspension of flights by Jet Airways has led to excess demand in the country’s civil aviation market as there is a significant shortage of flights.

The count of travelers flying on domestic airlines dropped by 4.5 percent to 109.95 lakh in April in comparison to 115.13 lakh in the same month of the previous year, as per data from Indian aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

In terms of IndiGo, the new direct daily flights will conduct services on Mumbai-Dammam along with Chennai-Kuala Lumpur routes according to the information on the press release from the carrier. The new flights between Mumbai and Damman will commence operations from July 05 and flights between Chennai and Kuala Lumpur which will be operating from July 15. On the other hand, SpiceJet announced a daily direct flight on Guwahati-Dhaka-Guwahati sector and 14 new domestic flights. The domestic flights will start operations from June 20 whereas, the international flights will commence services from July 01 as per press release from the company itself.

GoAir is currently offering a limited period offer on flight tickets starting from Rs. 1,399. The bookings will be valid till June 05 for traveling date till July 31.
