Head to Alaska to Experience its Snowcapped Mountains, Glaciers and Wildlife

Alaska is a vast region which is home to many glaciers, snow capped mountains, beaches, temperate rainforests and abundant wildlife. The US state of Alaska is very big, so big that it is bigger than some countries that we know!  A lot of tourists flock to Alaska to experience its unique wilderness. Some of the best mountains, glaciers and breath taking views in the Alaska region can only be explored by taking a helicopter ride or a plane ride. These air rides are expensive but they are really worth the price because they give you the best feel of experiencing the landscapes and scenic views from top.

The best way to tour Alaska

Just fly to Anchorage and once you get there you can explore Alaska in one of the 3 ways

  • Take a bus or train with a tour group
  • Hire a rental car and explore Alaska on your own
  • Take a cruise operated by a standard cruise-liner
  • Via a small tour operator that operates packaged tours

When you take a bus or train tour with a group the good thing is you get to meet new people with whom you can interact and exchange views and ideas about the various picturesque attractions that you may see on the way, this surely will give you an enhanced experience. The downside of this is you are restricted when it comes to having access to rare scenic sites and eateries as most buses stay on the main travel corridors giving you not much choice to explore the scenic spots around the stopover. The main benefit of such guided bus or train tours is they work out very cheap.

One way of going around this region is hiring a rental car to explore the unseen region. This method is widely practiced by travelers when they are in a group. I sincerely don’t advise travelers to use this option, there are so many downsides to this approach 1) Navigating and driving in a new region without the local know-how about the regional geography will be disastrous 2) It’s going to be really stressful for someone in the group to drive through the new countryside 3) No tour is complete in Alaska without a local guide to explain the significance of the attractions that you are likely to encounter.

The other way is to take an Alaska cruise operated by a standard cruise-liner, well this may be the best option for romancing it sure is not the best way of getting around Alaska’s mountains, rainforests and beaches. The point is when you go on a cruise the shipboard experience can be exciting but Alaska becomes a backdrop, you will not be able to really get the feel of its mountains, wildlife and other scenic beauties.

The best way for you to explore Alaska is by going through packaged tour operators, most of them generally are very flexible with itineraries and give you optional choices of expensive flight seeing tours, glacier tours as part of their packages. This may be a bit pricey but go for this as it will leave lasting impressions about Alaska.
