South Africa is the southernmost country in the continent of Africa, almost twice the size of Texas, has diverse ethnic people, varied cultures, many languages and religions. It is intriguing to know that this country has 11 official languages, two of these are of European origin: Afrikaans is the first language spoken by most colored and white inhabitants of South Africa and has its origins from Dutch, English is the other language borrowed from the British. Today’s South Africa was colonized by both Dutch and British Settlers before it gained independence from the British invaders, most of the white people you find in SA are descendents of settlers from  Dutch or British origins.

From the tourist perspective a lot of tourists from across the world travel to this country to explore its breathtaking views, wildlife sanctuaries, remarkable beaches and other natural wonders. South Africa records a lot of tourist footfall every year and is considered a tourist haven by most people.

It’s important to highlight that the Indian political iconic figure Mr Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as ‘Mahatma’ to most of present day Indians first went to SA to act as a Lawyer on behalf of a local Indian trader to resolve a commercial dispute on a short journey, but his short visit later got extended and history records that Bapu lived in South Africa for 21 years before he left to India for joining the freedom struggle to end the British rule in India. The concept of ‘satyagraha’ was formulated by Mahatma in this country and so South Africa has a special significance to Mahatma’s journey into Indian politics.
